Direct Routing allows you to use Microsoft Teams to manage inbound and outbound calls, just like a traditional PSTN system.
Direct Routing works by combining the Microsoft Teams system to the PSTN, either by a Session Border Controller and SIP Trunks.
When you are ready to enable users for the Direct Routing Service, follow these steps:
1. Create a user in Office 365 and assign a phone system license.
2. Ensure that the user is homed in Skype for Business Online.
3. Configure the phone number and enable enterprise voice and voicemail.
4. Configure voice routing. The route is automatically validated.
Calling Skype from Microsoft Teams is not currently possible and looks unlikely to be developed. Microsoft is currently carefully migrating customers from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams.
