Oracle FastConnect Setup via Interconnection Partner

The Interconnection partner-routed path delivers an Oracle FastConnect circuit through a interconnection partner, used where the desired metro is better served that way or where a sub-1 Gbps bandwidth is required (the direct interconnect starts at 1 Gbps). The OCI-side steps are the same as the direct path; the difference is on the Tata Communications side. 

The Interconnection partner-routed path supports bandwidth slabs of 10, 50, 200, 500 Mbps and 1, 2, 5, 10 Gbps, with jumbo MTU (< 9000). Encapsulation is QinQ (S-tag + C-tag). Both Layer 3 and Layer 2 service types are supported. 

When to choose the Interconnection partner-routed path

Choose Interconnection partner-routed when you need a sub-1 Gbps circuit (10/50/200/500 Mbps), or when the target Oracle metro is reachable through an interconnection partner rather than a Tata Communications direct interconnect. For production workloads at 1 Gbps or above where a direct interconnect is available, the direct path is the simpler choice.

Provisioning flow

  1. In your OCI console, create the FastConnect circuit, choosing the interconnection partner as the service provider, with your bandwidth and peering location. Oracle generates the OCI/VC-ID.

  2. Share the OCI/VC-ID with Tata Communications via the TCx Portal.

  3. Tata Communications provisions the circuit over the interconnection partner; the bandwidth is set from the OCI/VC-ID.

  4. On Layer 3, Tata Communications brings up the BGP to Oracle and you reach OCI over the L3VPN. On Layer 2, you configure the IP, ASN and MD5 and run BGP to Oracle yourself.

Bandwidth changes on the Interconnection partner-routed path

Bandwidth changes are initiated by you in the Oracle portal; Tata Communications then matches the bandwidth on the interconnection partner with an in-place upgrade, so traffic continues without interruption (subject to capacity on the physical ports). Note that the Oracle OCI/VC-ID has a minimum bandwidth of 1 Gbps; for sub-1 Gbps changes (10/50/200/500 Mbps), Tata Communications applies the change directly on the interconnection partner.
