Provisioning and Access for Zoom

Zoom connectivity is provisioned by Tata Communications on the MPLS backbone – there is no customer-side gateway to create. This page covers how a site is connected, the two access paths, and how existing MPLS customers reach Zoom. 

Each customer is provisioned with a dedicated VRF and a last mile into the MPLS backbone, and is allocated a /32 public PNR address for NAT toward Zoom. Existing MPLS customers can reach Zoom through an Extranet model without a new last mile.

Connecting a new site

To connect a site to Zoom:

  • The site is provisioned into the MPLS backbone using a new last mile – either a physical circuit or a logical circuit over the existing last mile.

  • A new VRF is configured for the customer so that Zoom voice services are kept separate from existing data services.

  • The customer is allocated a /32 public PNR address, configured on the customer CPE for NAT/PAT, the site joins the Zoom VPN as a spoke and exchanges routes with the network over a standard PE-CE BGP session.

  • The site receives Zoom’s public prefixes for both locations of the Zoom region, and only the /32 PNR is advertised toward Zoom.

          Zoom supports a single virtual circuit per Zoom location, so the dual virtual circuit that Zoom mandates for each customer is delivered by connecting to two locations of the same Zoom region – provisioned with the IZO™+ Multi Cloud Connect modular looped-port design. This is what gives you resilient paths to both locations of the region 

          Access paths

          Zoom connectivity can be delivered over two paths; both present the same private, SLA-backed service:

          • Direct MPLS NNI – Tata Communications’ direct network-to-network interconnect with the Zoom cloud platform.

          • Via a partner exchange – Zoom is reached over an existing high-capacity interconnect through a partner exchange, which can be scaled to serve the aggregate bandwidth requirements of Zoom customers. Establishing this interconnect with Zoom is a one-time Tata Communications-side activity; once it is in place, customer connectivity is provisioned over it.

              The choice of path is a Tata Communications delivery decision based on location and capacity; it does not change the service you receive.

              Existing Tata Communications MPLS VPN customers

              Existing Tata Communications MPLS VPN customers who are already configured under a different VPN can reach the Zoom architecture using an Extranet model, without a new last mile. The Zoom VPN and the customer VPN are joined by importing and exporting route targets between them, and the existing customer VPN exports only the /32 PNR address used for NAT on the customer CPE.
