Common Use Cases

IZO™+ Multi Cloud Connect supports three core connectivity patterns : site-to-cloud, data centre-to-cloud, and cloud-to-cloud; and these combine to address scenarios such as reducing latency to cloud-hosted applications, cutting cross-cloud egress costs, consolidating security, and building resilient hybrid architectures.  

The three core patterns

Most deployments map onto one or more of these patterns:

  • Site-to-cloud. Branches, offices, or factory sites need private, performant access to applications hosted in a public cloud. Traffic stays on a private path rather than traversing the public internet.

  • Data centre-to-cloud. An on-premises or co-located data centre is extended privately into one or more clouds — common for hybrid architectures, migration, and disaster recovery.

  • Cloud-to-cloud. Two cloud environments (in the same provider or across different providers) are connected to each other through the backbone, so inter-cloud traffic does not exit to the internet.

Where these patterns show up in practice

The patterns above translate into recurring business scenarios. The following are representative of the situations Tata Communications has published as customer outcomes:

  • Reducing latency to cloud-hosted applications - Distributed sites reaching a cloud workload over the public internet often see inconsistent, high latency. A private site-to-cloud connection gives predictable performance; for example, retail point-of-sale estates that were experiencing transaction failures over the internet path.

  • Optimising cross-cloud data and egress costs - Analytics and data pipelines that move large volumes between two clouds can incur significant internet egress charges. A cloud-to-cloud connection keeps that traffic on the private backbone and can reduce those costs.

  • Consolidating security and landing zones - Connecting multiple clouds privately lets an enterprise centralise inspection and firewalling rather than duplicating it per cloud, which can lower the overall security footprint and cost.

  • Building hybrid and full-mesh architectures - Enterprises combining private data centres with multiple public clouds use the service to create resilient, any-to-any reachability without re-architecting each environment individually.

  • Supporting AI and data-intensive workloads - Workloads that pull from on-premises data sources into cloud-based AI or compute services rely on a high-performance, secure path from the site to the cloud.

  • Reducing multi-cloud lock-in and improving resilience - Reaching several clouds over one private platform reduces dependence on any single provider and supports resilient, any-to-any designs, with consistent networking policy and visibility across them.
