Bandwidth Tiers and Slabs

IZO™+ Multi Cloud Connect offers bandwidth from 50 Mbps to 25 Gbps, with the available tiers depending on the cloud provider and the connection type. This page lists the tiers, how upgrades and downgrades behave, and how to right-size from monthly transfer volumes.

The clouds detailed below are the most commonly used ones; IZO™+ Multi Cloud Connect connects to major cloud and SaaS providers across the globe on the same models, with the current list shown in the TCx Portal.

AWS Direct Connect tiers

AWS Direct Connect Hosted Connections delivered via IZO™+ Multi Cloud Connect are available in two tier ranges.

Both standard and high-capacity tiers are supported on Tata Communications-managed direct interconnects and on partner-routed Hosted Connections.

Azure ExpressRoute bandwidth tiers

Azure ExpressRoute circuits are available in the standard Azure-defined slabs: 50, 100, 200 and 500 Mbps, and 1, 2, 5 and 10 Gbps. Availability of specific tiers depends on the chosen Azure peering location. For sustained connections at 10 Gbps or higher, consider ExpressRoute Direct (covered in the Azure section). The effective WAN-side MTU is 1500 bytes.

Google Cloud Interconnect tiers

Google Cloud VLAN attachments are available in the slabs 50, 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 Mbps, and 1, 2, 5 and 10 Gbps, with 20 and 50 Gbps available only where 100 Gbps ports are present. Bandwidth can be changed in place, with hot upgrade and downgrade. Jumbo MTU below 9000 bytes is supported on partner-routed connections.

Oracle FastConnect tiers

Oracle FastConnect on the direct path is available in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 Gbps, with 25 Gbps where the Oracle interconnect is 100 Gbps; a partner-routed connection additionally offers lower slabs from 10 Mbps upward. You define bandwidth in the Oracle console on the direct path, and upgrades and downgrades apply without Oracle-side downtime. The supported MTU is 1500 bytes standard and 9000 bytes jumbo.

IBM Direct Link Connect tiers

IBM Direct Link Connect is available in 50, 100, 200 and 500 Mbps, and 1 and 2 Gbps. Bandwidth over-provisioning is not supported, and the WAN-side MTU is 1500 bytes. Tata Communications can change bandwidth on your behalf on request; each gateway change must be accepted by you in the IBM Cloud console. 

Bandwidth upgrades and downgrades

Bandwidth changes are supported, but the process differs by connection type.

On Tata Communications-managed direct interconnects and on the in-place-capable clouds (for example Google Cloud, Oracle and IBM), a bandwidth change is applied to the existing connection through a change request in the TCx Portal, without disrupting the connection beyond a brief reconfiguration window. Some partner-routed Hosted Connections do not support in-place changes: to change bandwidth the existing connection is deleted and a new one created at the desired tier, which requires a planned cutover.

When planning upgrades, raise the change request well in advance of the desired cutover date. Physical interconnect capacity is provisioned ahead of customer orders, and very large upgrades may require capacity expansion at the cloud-side interconnect.

Right-sizing guidance

A useful rule of thumb when sizing bandwidth from monthly transfer volumes: sustained transfer of 1 Gbps for an entire month is approximately 324 TB. So if your monthly cloud egress is 30 TB, an average rate of around 100 Mbps will sustain that volume, but you will want headroom for peak hours, typically a factor of 3 to 5 over average.
