Oracle FastConnect FAQs

Quick answers to the questions most often asked about connecting to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with IZO™+ Multi Cloud Connect. For step-by-step detail, follow the linked pages. 

Getting connected

How do I start an Oracle connection?

You create a FastConnect circuit in your OCI console, choose Tata Communications (Layer 3 or Layer 2) as the service provider, and share the resulting OCI/VC-ID with Tata Communications via the TCx Portal. See Oracle FastConnect Setup (Direct Interconnect).

What is the OCI/VC-ID?

It is the key Oracle generates when you create the FastConnect circuit. It carries the provisioning attributes (bandwidth, location, region, IP, MTU, provider) and links your circuit to Tata Communications’ provisioning. Layer 2 services need two OCI/VC-IDs (primary and secondary).

Which paths are available?

A Tata Communications-managed direct interconnect (1–25 Gbps) and a partner-routed path (10 Mbps–10 Gbps). See Oracle FastConnect Overview.

Bandwidth

What bandwidths are available?

Direct path: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 and 25 Gbps (25 Gbps needs a 100 Gbps interconnect). Partner-routed: 10, 50, 200, 500 Mbps and 1, 2, 5, 10 Gbps.

Routing and addressing

What ASNs are used?

Oracle uses 31898 for both Private and Public peering; Tata Communications uses 4755 (fixed).

Do I need a public ASN?

Only for Public peering. Private peering accepts both public and private ASNs.

Are there prefix limits?

Yes – Oracle enforces 2,000 IPv4 and 500 IPv6 prefixes on Private virtual circuits, and 200 on Public. Exceeding the limit drops the BGP session until advertisements fall back under it.

Is multicast supported?

No. Neither Oracle nor Tata Communications supports multicast on FastConnect.

Service types and resilience

What’s the difference between Layer 3 and Layer 2?

On Layer 3, Tata Communications runs the BGP to Oracle (4755 <--> 31898) and you reach OCI over the L3VPN. On Layer 2, Tata Communications provides a non-transparent VLAN EoMPLS Dot1Q tunnel and you manage IP and BGP directly with Oracle. See Oracle L2VPN Services.

Is the connection resilient by default?

Yes. Tata Communications delivers over dual interconnects and creates the circuit over both the primary and secondary NNI. Oracle does not define formal resiliency tiers. See Oracle Resiliency and High Availability.

MTU and security

Does FastConnect support jumbo frames?

MTU ranges from 1500 to 9000 on the direct interconnect and 1500 to less than 9000 on the interconnection partner-routed path.

Can the connection be encrypted?

FastConnect is delivered as a private connection (a Virtual Cloud Connection over the Tata Communications MPLS backbone) that does not traverse the public internet.  If you have specific encryption requirements, contact the Tata Communications support team via the TCx Portal to discuss the options.

Who manages the CPE?

The cloud connection is delivered as an unmanaged service, so CPE configuration sits with you, using the parameter handoff Tata Communications provides. Managed GVPN sites continue to follow the existing GVPN process.
