Oracle FastConnect Overview
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect is a private, dedicated network connection between your enterprise network and Oracle Cloud, replacing the public internet for OCI workloads. IZO™+ Multi Cloud Connect delivers FastConnect as a fully managed service over Tata Communications’ MPLS backbone.
IZO™+ Multi Cloud Connect supports both Tata Communications-managed direct interconnects (1–25 Gbps) and partner-routed paths (10 Mbps–10 Gbps). Both Layer 3 (with BGP) and Layer 2 (EoMPLS tunnel) service types are supported, with Private and Public peering modes. Tata Communications uses ASN 4755; Oracle uses ASN 31898. For OCI-side concepts (the FastConnect offering, VCN setup, Dynamic Routing Gateway), see Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure documentation.
How Tata Communications delivers FastConnect
When you order Oracle connectivity through IZO™+ Multi Cloud Connect:
-
You create a FastConnect circuit in your Oracle Cloud console, selecting Tata Communications as the service provider.
-
Oracle generates an OCI/VC-ID. You share this with Tata Communications via the TCx Portal.
-
Tata Communications inputs the partner-side parameters (ASN, peering subnet, VLAN/C-tag, MD5 key for L3) through the partner portal.
-
The configuration reflects automatically in your Oracle portal – no re-entry from your side.
-
BGP comes up between the Tata Communications MPLS PE router and Oracle’s edge.
This Provider-Managed Peering model simplifies provisioning by eliminating customer-side configuration of peering parameters. On the default Layer 3 delivery a single OCI/VC-ID is required and Tata Communications runs the BGP to Oracle, so there is nothing for you to configure on your CPE. Layer 2 uses two OCI/VC-IDs and you run BGP to Oracle yourself.

Service types: L3 and L2
Oracle FastConnect via IZO™+ Multi Cloud Connect supports both L3 (BGP routing managed by Tata Communications) and L2 (transparent transport with customer-managed BGP):
-
Layer 3 Private peering – Tata Communications allocates the peering subnet (/30 private) and manages BGP with Oracle. Reaches resources in your VCN.
-
Layer 3 Public peering – Oracle allocates the peering subnet. Reaches Oracle public services (Object Storage, Autonomous Database, OCI APIs) over the dedicated connection. A public ASN is required on the customer side.
-
Layer 2 services – Tata Communications provides Dot1Q tagging via an EoMPLS tunnel; you manage IP addressing and BGP directly with Oracle. For L2, you must create two separate OCI/VC-IDs (primary and secondary) to maintain Oracle’s standard dual-circuit resiliency.
Bandwidth
Standard bandwidth tiers on the direct path are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 and 25 Gbps (25 Gbps requires a 100 Gbps Oracle interconnect). Via the partner-routed path: 10, 50, 200 and 500 Mbps and 1, 2, 5 and 10 Gbps. Bandwidth changes are initiated by you in the Oracle portal, subject to capacity. The full routing detail – ASNs, transit subnets, BFD, prefix limits and path control – is on Oracle Routing and BGP Configuration.
Circuits are delivered over dual interconnects to Oracle, see Oracle Resiliency and High Availability for the resilience and path-control detail.
What’s on the Oracle side
These are configured in your Oracle Cloud console:
-
Creating the FastConnect circuit and selecting Tata Communications as the service provider
-
Celecting Layer 3 vs Layer 2 and Private vs Public peering
-
Virtual Cloud Network (VCN) and Dynamic Routing Gateway (DRG) setup; and VCN route-table configuration.
For a Layer 2 service you also configure, on the Oracle side and your CPE, the BGP IP subnet, ASN and MD5 key – on Layer 2 the addressing and BGP are customer-managed.
The end-to-end walkthrough is on Oracle FastConnect Setup (Direct Interconnect).
