Tata Communications and Arbor Networks Receive
2008 Telephony Innovation Award for Most Innovative Managed Service
Chicago, October 1, 2008 – Tata Communications, a leading provider of the new world of communications, and Arbor Networks, a leading provider of secure service control solutions for global business networks were honored with Most Innovative Managed Service Award for its Managed DDoS Detection and Mitigation services at the 2008 Telephony Innovation Award at a ceremony in Chicago.
"Tata Communications is very pleased that Telephony recognizes the value that our unique global network-based managed DDOS Detection and Mitigation service offers to customers who own 'at-risk' internet facilities anywhere in the world." said John Landau, Senior Vice President, Global Managed Services, Tata Communications. "Arbor Networks is our partner providing the best-in-class underlying technology that enables this service, one of the flagship offers in the Tata Communications Managed Security Services portfolio."
Tata Communications' DDoS Detection & Mitigation security services provide a fully integrated solution for global, real time application-layer analysis of the IP traffic traversing across the Tata Communications global IP backbone. The services monitor and analyze customer traffic in real time and on a 24x7x365 basis. The service provides proactive notification of actionable events, helping improve Tata Communications' customer's visibility into the security and availability of their network. In the event of DDOS attack, the service puts the endangered traffic through a nearby high bandwidth Arbor TMS "scrubber" that in real time identifies and removes the attack traffic and allows the normal traffic to proceed.
"The judges selected Tata Communications' network-based security services because of the comprehensive nature of the protection they provide," said Carol Wilson, Editor-in-Chief of Telephony. "We offer a managed service award in recognition of the fact that business customers are increasingly looking to telecom service providers to handle more of their problems on a managed-service basis, within the telecom network. This is an excellent example of just such a service – business security problems are addressed in the network before they can hit the enterprise and consume its resources. Enterprises don't have to develop the expertise to provide this kind of protection."
In addition to protection against security threats, Tata Communications is utilizing Arbor Peakflow SP for addressing network issues such as traffic and routing instability. "Security services are of utmost concern for global communications and information providers, especially in the current market," said Rob Malan, Arbor Networks co-founder and chief technology officer. "Arbor Networks is honored to be recognized with Tata Communications as a recipient of this award."
Telephony's Innovation Awards, now in its second year, recognize service providers who have developed unique or first-to-market offerings that either utilize technology or address customers' needs in a new way. The innovation can come in almost any form – design, delivery, pricing, bundling, packaging or customer service.
